Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights (Audiobook)
Ok, let’s start by saying I looked up from my simple knitting to see that it was 3:30 AM and maybe I had been listening for more than the hour I thought. My project is a nice and simple garter stitch log cabin from The Mason-Dixon Knitting Book, so I was fully absorbed in the murder plot. Which is really secondary to Sophie’s self-absorption with her sister and nephew.
Granted it is rather unbelievable after the events of the prequel, Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte,

that Anatoly would ever speak with Sophie again. But this is Harlequin land, where we are allowed to dismiss all common sense – much like real life relationships.
Despite the murder, this is definitely chick lit with a lame attempt at being socially relevant when we find out who the real killer is and why. Of course, there wasn’t much to point us in that particular direction to begin with – since the majority of the story is spent with Sophie manipulating and being jealous of Anatoly. Not to mention worrying about her sister’s highlights.
If you want a fun listen while doing the chores or crafting this is it. It doesn’t tax the brain but doesn’t cause drowsiness either. It falls in my “Cotton Candy for the Brain” category. Stay away if you are looking for great literature – that’s not the target audience here.
Of course, I happen to like Gabra Zackman’s reading style, she can really bring a story to life.
Update: Sorry about not having comments on… I forgot that they are turned off when writing a review…
